DOVER, Del. -- The sixth stop for the 2004 25-race NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) will be on Dover's "Monster Mile, Friday, June 4. The 200-lap race will be in conjunction with a full weekend of racing in addition to the NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch racing series. GM Goodwrench Chevrolet Silverado driver Matt Crafton will be making his fourth start at Dover with high expectations.
"This place has been pretty bad for me in the last two years," said Crafton. "I had two really bad crashes the last two races there, in 2003 and 2002. I really like the track a lot so maybe it will be nicer to me this year."
For 2004, Crafton moved to a new team owned by Nextel Cup star Kevin Harvick. The move has proved to be a boon to the young driver's career. Despite being an innocent victim of an on-track incident at the Daytona truck opener, finishing 19th, Crafton has recorded his first Top-5 and four consecutive Top-10 finishes in succeeding races.
This year Crafton, currently fifth in series driver points, has also recorded his career best start with a fourth at Lowe's Motor Speedway in May and a career best finish of fifth at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March.
"We've got all new equipment and a great Chevy motor program from Richard Childress Racing," said Crafton. Everything is 'state of the art' and Kevin Harvick and Crew Chief Wally Rodgers have put together an experienced crew. Although we have only been together for five races, this team is really working together and it gets better each race.
"To complete the total package we have the sponsor of all sponsors with GM Goodwrench on our trucks," said Crafton. GM Goodwrench celebrates 19 years of sponsorship involvement in NASCAR and Richard Childress Racing. That combination has produced Winston Cup championships and the initial NCTS Championship in 1995.
